About us

PracticeMaltese started as a tool we needed ourselves — then we opened it up for anyone learning Maltese by ear.

Boats in Valletta harbour, Malta

We learned Maltese on our own, mostly from books and written materials. Reading got easier with practice. Listening did not.

There was little clear, sentence-level audio tied to the vocabulary we already knew. We could follow a page of Maltese fairly well, yet on the ear almost nothing stuck. Spoken Maltese is dense: sounds blend, stress moves, and familiar words can feel unrecognizable when heard rather than seen.

So we built PracticeMaltese for our own listening practice — short sentences with voice, based on words we were already studying. It helped us train the ear without waiting for the perfect course or a classroom.

We decided to share it. If you are a self-learner who reads better than you hear, this site is for that gap: Maltese listening practice, voice on every card, and space to check the English when you are ready.
